Abergavenny's an ideal pitstop when exploring the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) on two wheels or by foot. The national cycle route (42) starts from here onto Chepstow and ideal for families or those looking for a pre-determined and quiet traffic-free route. Alternatively for those roadies head north with an immediate ascent over the Gospel Pass and into the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye

Previously known as the Trading Post this popular cafe in the hip town of Abergavenny serves up all your cafe favourites alongside homemade cakes, great coffee and plenty of space for walking or cycling groups of all sizes.

Early risers will find a full Welsh, veggie or vegan breakfast (alongside a smaller version), porridge, varying ‘on toast’ options, breakfast baguettes, bacon crumpets or teacakes. As for lunch there’s a choice of baguettes, jacket potatoes, sandwiches, toasties, soups, quiche and larger meals.

Cakes on our visit included a lemon drizzle, cherry chocolate, Biscoff, chocolate fudge or carrot alongside Bailey’s or salted caramel cheesecake, loaded chocolate brownies and flapjacks.
