Having sampled all of the Bakewell pudding cafes in the popular tourist town of Bakewell (what a hardship!) we can conclude that this is most certainly the best!
The name says it all, if you want to sample a traditional (or modern for that matter) Bakewell pudding or tart, make this your destination. I don’t know what they do to those puddings but they are delicious… The restaurant claims to be the source of the first Bakewell pudding back in 1860 and still made using the same recipe!
As you can see from the photos, in addition to the original Bakewell pudding (we had the large!) they also offer the modern take of the Bakewell tart too with both served with either custard, cream or a mixture of both! Other sweet options include a wide range of other cakes (large slices and gluten free available), cream and afternoon teas and varying traybakes!
For those without a sweet tooth, there’s a large menu with everything from paninis, sandwiches (including a great fish finger), quiche, soup, burgers and breakfast options too – including the ‘Bakewell breakfast’ with award winning sausages and famous Derbyshire Oatcake.
There’s also a shop downstairs if you want to fill up your saddle bags for the ride home (or take it to work for that mid-afternoon lull).
