Note: This cafe is now closed and has been replaced by the Shell House Kitchen.
A quirky and recently opened cafe and cocktail bar set across multiple floors within a stunning period town house and located in the timed-lined market town of Ledbury. On the ground floor you’ll find a bustling cafe serving up fantastic coffee, cakes and light bites with the works of local artists showcased on the walls and a perfect sun-trap in the large enclosed rear garden terrace.
The homemade cakes on our most recent summer visit included a decadent iced Malteser brownie, coffee & walnut, lemon drizzle, Bakewell slice, spiced carrot and moist flapjack alongside their delicious filled cannolis – we went for the Sicilian lemon aragostine (pictured and eaten). The coffee is excellent and comes from Monmouth Coffee Company in Covent Garden, London.
For those looking for something savoury there’s a superb seasonal menu with a range of toasted ciabattas (the pastrami, pickled cucumber & smoked cheddar is our favourite), luxury sausage rolls, salads (the roast squash & goats cheese is popular) and a ‘Ploughman’s plate’. If looking to share or you’ve a big appetite their tempting sharing boards include a ‘continental’ with a range of cheeses & antipasti alongside a ‘local’ with locally sourced pork pie, sausage roll, coleslaw, pickles, hams & cheeses.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the building and it’s access there’s no way of bringing your bikes into the rear garden, however there is nearby racking available on the lam-post out front (with mountings) alongside further available in the market square (a little bit of a walk).
Note: Upstairs you’ll find fashion and specially curated gifts and accessories.
