coffee

A superb cappuccino with coffee beans & tea from Clifton based Clifton Coffee

taste

There’s simply too much choice here and who doesn’t love a bakery?! As for recommendations we’d highly recommend the blueberry & strawberry bostock (a French pastry similar to French toast), decadently covered chocolate croissant or one off their famous Kouign-Amann (sweet Breton) cakes - the raspberry & pistachio is our favourite. For those looking for savoury you can’t go wrong with their focaccia sandwiches or tomato, cheese & basil croissants

selection

The sourdough doesn’t get any fresher from the oven than here; for breakfast you’ll find 100% rye sourdough toast, cinnamon fruit toast, breakfast yogurt pots and warm savoury croissants; tomato, cheese & basil or bacon, cheese & maple syrup. For later in the day there’s toasted sourdough sandwiches, focaccia with various toppings or sandwiches, soup and sourdough pizza by the slice too

value

Americano (Clifton Coffee, long black, £3.20), cappuccino (£3.85), latte (£3.85), tea (Clifton Tea, £3.50), cakes (from £), sourdough toast (£4.95), cinnamon fruit toast (£4.95), breakfast yogurt pots (£4.25), savoury croissants (tomato, cheese & basil or bacon, cheese & maple syrup, £6.50), sourdough toasted sandwich (£6.95), focaccia (with toppings, £4.15), seasonal soup (£7.20), sourdough pizza slice (£4.15), focaccia sandwich (£6.95), nutri-bowls (£7.90)

storage

There’s dedicated council maintained bike racking found directly outside the cafe on the High Street

groups

Inside the bakery is a good number of tables however the taste has got out and weekends do get rather busy, early riders should be ok however!

location

Monmouth is surrounded by quiet, scenic roads aplenty, a particular favourite of ours is the road out south towards Tintern and its famous Abbey following the River Wye. When here be sure to visit The Filling Station cafe. Alternatively head east towards Gloucester and pass the majestic Kimin mountain

Known throughout Monmouthshire for their 100% rye sourdough this popular bakery has been supplying surrounding businesses for years. What’s great for us is they’ve now two fantastic cafes; one in Cardiff and the other based here in the hip Welsh town of Monmouth.

If you’re looking for superb sourdough, deliciously different cakes & pasties or savoury bites it’s one we’d highly recommend a quick detour here!

Early riders will find sourdough toast alongside a rather moreish cinnamon fruit toast with preserves too. Additionally there’s breakfast pots and warm savoury croissants too (tomato, cheese & basil or bacon, cheese & maple syrup).

For lunch again their famous sourdough and focaccia feature heavily; toasted sourdough sandwiches, focaccia with various toppings, seasonal soup or focaccia sandwiches. Additional there’s sourdough pizza by the slice and a range of customisable nutri-bowls too.

The cakes, pastries and sweet treats are again as you’d expect all baked in-house too. During our Christmas visit these included a spiced stollen slice, chocolate & raspberry bostock (a French pastry similar to French toast), raspberry & vanilla glazed doughnut, blueberry & strawberry jam bostock cake, chocolate croissant, Jaffa cake biscotti, raspberry & pistachio biscuit and range of Kouign-Amann – a sweet Breton cake (all pictured).

The coffee is sourced from a favourite roaster of ours, Clifton Coffee, alongside the tea which is also sourced from the same roaster and named Clifton Tea.
