Circular cycle route
A scenic circular road cycling route in the southern Lake District, passing the spectacular lakes of Windermere, Coniston and Esthwaite Water under the watchful eye of the Old Man of Coniston mountain.
The 35 mile cycle route passes the famous and largest lake of Windermere, although personally Consiston Water has the edge in terms of scenery. We also touch the popular tourist town of Ambleside to the north where there’s plenty of eateries for those looking for a midway pitstop.
At around halfway, Herdwicks Cafe in Consiton is great please to stop mid cycle for coffee and cake and is directly below the Old Man of Coniston.
Whilst in the area be sure to visit the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, it’s a short detour but the unique, spicy-sweet cross between a biscuit and cake invented in 1854 (and still to the same recipe) is a must.
