Bijou, hip coffee shop located in the vibrant and artistic Devon town of Totnes, once described by the Times as the capital of New-Age chic. Totnes is famed for it’s fab range of vegetarian and vegan cafes and eclectic, ethical and zero waste stores – infact it claims to have had the first.
The Hairy Barista is no exception serving up a mostly plant-based menu of delicious homemade sweet and savoury vegetarian and vegan food, mouth-watering cakes (including GF) and organic super smoothies. What’s more they’re independent and champion organic, locally sourced ingredients.
On the savoury vegan lunch menu you’ll find mozzarella focaccia, Middle Eastern falafel served with sourdough & tahini, smoked salmon & cream cheese bagel, crushed avo & cucumber kimchi in sourdough, scrambled tofu & tumeric mayo, freshly made soup and their famous fritattas, pies and sushi rolls.
For breakfast there’s the HairyB yogurt pot complete with tahini, date syrup & nuts, porridge and a selection of pastries including Halva cream and pistachio croissant, pan au chocolat and pan au raisin.
If looking for something sweet there’s a great selection of plant-based cakes and traybakes including macadamia, chocolate & peppermint bar, carrot & walnut cake, blueberry raw cake complete with buckwheat base, caramel banoffee muffins and a fine selection of pastries.
As for recommendations, when last visiting we tried the plant-based middle eastern frittata served with handmade tahini, alonside the vegan mozzarella focaccia, both were superb!
Pop by and relax in the moment with speciality coffees sourced from Mission Coffee Works Coffee Roasters, pulled through a customised Conti machine in their cosy, bustling cafe. There’s very limited seating indoors, therefore groups are recommended to take-away and enjoy the busy streets of vibrant Totnes.
