Hidden away nearby to the village of Welwyn and town of Welwyn Garden City you’ll find a magnet for cyclists across Hertfordshire looking for the perfect mid-ride cake fix. Meticulously decorated with an array of cycle racing memorabilia, enthusiastically run by cyclists and with welcoming Chesterfield sofas, log-burner and team Labrador, it’s the perfect cycle stop.
Stepping inside the modern workshop you’ll find a delicious range of homemade cakes, toasties and coffee served from their iconic 1964 Citroen H van, certainly the best centrepiece we’ve found on our travels.
Their silky smooth coffee is sourced from Campervan Coffee Co and during our visit the carrot cake special (pictured) was truly scrumptious and is just £5.00 with a coffee! Other cakes include a vegan or GF brownie and cookies, flapjacks, banana bread, barmbrack; an Irish cake with sultanas & raisins and a lemon drizzle.
As for savoury options there’s their famous three cheese toasties (now with a vegan option too) which can be customised with a variety of fillings including Marmite, salami & Spoke’s special hot sauce, alongside toast with a myriad of toppings (Biscoff & peanut butter all the way!).
A welcome retreat for cyclists, hikers, horse riders and dog walkers alike, there’s a superb large outdoor terrace where should you wish, you can also enjoy an alcoholic drink from their bar. During cycling events there’s also a large TV showing the best of racing throughout the year from Grand Tours to Belgian cyclocross.
There’s plenty of space both inside and out for the largest of cycling groups, with secure bike racking too. We throughly enjoy our visits here and it’s fantastic to see their cafe flourish from it’s beginnings back in 2019, do let us know how you get on.
